Mark Mayes, Owner

Mark Mayes, a 22+ year veteran of the fitness industry, has been a full-time personal trainer for the past 17 years. In 1991 he opened Fitness Resources, Inc., a personal training company. He and his staff have trained clients and run fitness programs at private clubs, physician offices, and corporate fitness centers. Mayes expanded Fitness Resources to two private studios and a corporate fitness center in Columbus, Ohio. Prior to his affiliation with Fitness Resources, he was the physical director at the Downtown Columbus YMCA.

Mayes is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Council of Exercise, American College of Sports Medicine Enhanced Qualification (exercise and older adults), and the YMCA. Mark is also certified in and practices a form of bodywork called " polarity therapy." For group instruction, he is certified in SpinningŠ and RiPP & RideŠ by Schwinn. He is currently an Advisory Board Member of The Wellness Forum Foundation. He has served on the board of directors of the International Fitness Institute and Central Ohio Association of Conditioning, Health and Exercise Specialists (COACHES). He also is a past member of the elite national Systematic TOUCH training team and has taught as an adjunct professor in the Sports and Fitness Management program at Columbus State University.

His professional philosophy is to educate, motivate, and provide direction to individuals of all ages to help them achieve their health and fitness goals. His areas of expertise are general fitness training, strength training, and swimming, running, and cycling programs. His goal is for clients to ultimately have the confidence and knowledge to take personal responsibility for their fitness regimen. He customizes fitness programs for his diverse clients-from athletes and busy professionals to senior citizens-with wide-ranging levels of fitness experience and goals.

Mark's Staff:

  • Scott Emerson, Personal Trainer & Exercise Specialist - Scott has been in the fitness industry for over ten years working in country clubs and personal training facilities. Scott graduated from Columbus State Community College in the Sports Management program there and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at Franklin University. Scott is certified though Columbus State as a Exercise Specialist and holds certifications through the American Council of Exercise and International Fitness Institute. Scott has also competed in both body building and power lifting. Scott has experience in working with athletes as well as de-conditioned individuals at varying fitness levels.

  • Amanda (Mandi) Cecil graduated with a degree in Exercise Physiology from Ohio State University. She has an A.A.S. degree in Sport and Fitness Management from Columbus State Community College and is an AFAA Certified Personal Trainer, Schwinn Cycling instructor and a Schwinn RIPP Coach. She has worked in several fitness facilities, gaining experience and knowledge in personal training and management. Through her internships at McConnell Heart Health Center and the Human Performance Center, she also gained a range of knowledge in fitness testing and screening. She believes in all components of wellness; spiritual, physical, social, emotional, intellectual and occupational as a way to a healthy lifestyle.
  • Mandy Helfrey picture
  • Lyen Djakov M.S. got her start in personal training as a result of her own transformation from a couch potato to a marathon runner. Not always an avid fitness buff, she has successfully completed 4 marathons since 2005. She plans on completing another marathon in 2008. She also enjoys practicing ashtanga yoga in addition to running. Lyen's goal as a personal trainer is to help her clients make the most of their bodies and physical fitness, by identifying physical activities that they enjoy. Lyen has a master's degree in counseling from The College of William and Mary, and has worked with various populations in prevention and intervention settings. She is a certified personal trainer through the World Instructor Training School.
  • Mike Jones J.D. Having been an avid proponent of, and involved in, fitness for over 20 years, Mike obtained his Personal Fitness Trainer Certification through The World Instructor Training Schools (WITS), a comprehensive course conducted in conjunction with The Ohio State University. Mike's objective is to help individuals of all ages, whether professionals, athletes, children, senior citizens, or the general population, understand the benefits of, and adhere to, various customized fitness programs that will benefit them throughout their lives.
